description The French Academic wRiting (FAR) corpus is a corpus of native novice French academic writing that was compiled at Université catholique de Louvain (UCLouvain, Belgium). It is comprised of academic papers written by French-speaking students in the framework of their linguistics courses. The released version contains 65 texts amounting to 344,298 words. 15 papers were written by third-year BA students and 50 papers were written by MA students. The 65 texts are included in the data release in xml format (UTF8 encoding). The texts were tagged for information such as quotes and mentioned items following the VESPA tagging manual (Paquot et al. 2015). The tables, figures, references and appendices were removed from the files. The students were asked to fill out a questionnaire to provide metadata such as their age, level of study, reading habits, writing habits, and information on the text they wrote (e.g. title, date).
